Sometimes — but not always.A psychiatric evaluation is intended to understand the whole clinical picture, not simply assign a diagnosis as quickly as possible. In many cases, a diagnosis can be discussed during the initial appointment. In others, additional information, records, screening tools, laboratory testing, collateral information, or follow-up may be needed before a diagnosis can be made with appropriate confidence. The goal is accuracy and thoughtful clinical care, not rushing to a label.
